The tea party strategy of affecting public policy is winning!
We helped get Scott Brown, Rand Paul, defeat Utah Senator, Hawaii – and woke up a nation. Now is not the time to change strategies, but rather to keep moving forward. A few naysayers have been telling people that the “tea party” must get behind candidates, but that thinking is as outdated as thinking the earth is flat.
Before founding South Florida Tea Party, I sought the advice of friend who had a lot experience in the political and business world. He told me that there are three essential ways that a person can participate in the political process: First, they can run for office and directly write and vote for laws; Second, they can work inside a political party and get people elected; and lastly, work for an organization outside of political parties and candidates that works to affect public policy which has a direct affect on voters.
The tea party is outside of the political parties and candidates. The advantage to being outside is that we are not tied down to a political parties or candidates baggage or limited by jurisdiction. In addition, organizations can survive candidates and have the ability to affect public policy and opinions better than political parties.
Candidates must endorse and embrace the tea party principles, not the other way. If we don’t have elected representatives that support our principles, it doesn’t matter the number of people who we get elected. Think of the tea party as the NRA for fiscal responsibility, constitutional limited government and free markets. Does the NRA care how many Republicans are elected or do they care who stands up for Second Amendment rights?
South Florida Tea Party is committed to educating voters and getting out the vote (GOTV) in the November General Elections. The Tea Party needs to help citizens have their voices and votes heard.
South Florida Tea Party is committed to the following:
- Make Phone Calls From Home Like Scott Brown With Remote GOTV calling of voters
- Precinct canvassing for GOTV
- Education of voters considering the issues
- Remember this war is not one election, one bill, but a marathon of individual battles.

What is GOTV?
Getting out the Vote (GOTV) is exactly the same as it means, getting voters to the polls. In addition the tea party provide will provide a nonpartisan and unaffiliated rating regarding issues and bills on all candidates. The time has come to put an end to candidates and political parties’ propaganda! Getting out the vote (GOTV) is critical to the survival of America. The more educated voters that turn out, the stronger our issues become
Let’s take a look at the old way of working on campaign for a candidate or political party:
-
The focus on candidate and/or the political party
-
The effort is partisan and appeals only to one political party
-
We are trying to persuade voters versus educate voters
-
Volunteers work for candidates not the organizations
-
We only win only if candidate wins
-
It only increases the candidate and political party’s influence
Tea Party Get Out The Vote (GOTV)
-
The focus is on issues and not candidates
-
The effort is nonpartisan and appeals to all political parties
-
Voters are educated and voters are not told who to vote for
-
Volunteers remain with organizations and can’t be used by the political parties or candidates
*It advances the issues of the organization in the community whether the candidate wins or loses
The dirty political secret is that campaigns and political parties often forget about organizations after they are elected. The first thing Scott Brown voted for was a progressive job bill in the Senate. In addition, they will continue to ask for donations even if they vote against your organizations issues.
